Staff Accountant / Manager

Job duties will include accounting and bookkeeping functions as well as a managerial/supervisory role of 3-6 staff. Our Union negotiates collective bargaining agreements with Union employers and in the course of those negotiations, a Union accountant assigns values to various contract changes like “a pay increase of $0.50/hour will cost the employer $xxx”. We refer to this process as contract costing and this role will be a responsibility for this position.
Responsibilities
• Assist negotiating staff with contract costing
• Bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations
• Create and post general journal entries
• General ledger auditing
• Preparation of financial statements & budgets
• Creation of financial reports in MIP Fund Accounting
• Assist with preparation of LM-2 and other regulatory reports
• Review of semi-monthly payroll for accuracy
• Reconciliation of quarterly and annual payroll reports to GL
• Provide documentation for external auditors as required
• Coordinate asset tracking reconciliation process
• Provide back-up for other accounting functions as needed
• Manage Information Technology staff
Job Requirements/Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration
• 2-4 years accounting experience; non-profit experience - preferred
• Knowledge of fund accounting required
• Understanding of financial statements
• Proficiency in MIP accounting software, preferred
• Audit experience helpful
• Knowledge of Information Technology systems
• Ability to learn and use software applications - required
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel – required
• Strong analytical, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment
