Senior Payroll Supervisor

The Senior Payroll Supervisor will oversee and supervise the bi-weekly payroll functions for both U.S. and Canadian employees, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. Primarily responsible for the efficient functioning of the Payroll unit. Provide leadership in developing procedures, protocols, and internal control. Set the strategic compliance direction with applicable federal, state, provincial, local laws, and regulations.

Job Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Provide leadership, supervision and management of payroll process, regulatory reporting, and payroll tax compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with new tax jurisdiction, multi-state, and provincial tax requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, provincial and local payroll, wage & hour laws and best practices.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll.
  • Perform a wide variety of record keeping and payroll processing activities, including wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll taxes and deductions.
  • Review work of Payroll team and provide appropriate training and guidance on payroll procedures and technical issues.
  • Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing to ensure timely and accurate processing of all transaction including but not limited to salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Prepare worker’s compensation reporting requirements and audit schedules, pension audits 401K plan non-discrimination testing and other payroll related audits.
  • Perform periodic internal audits of various payroll areas to ensure compliance and timely reporting.
  • Review Form W-4s, W2s, T-4s, T2200s. Conduct quarterly and year-end Form 941s reconciliation.
  • Perform analysis of bi-weekly reports such as payroll registers and Master Control.
  • Reconcile bank cash debits with bi-weekly payroll entries.
  • Maintain a functional payroll calendar to monitor routine tasks, special projects, and deadlines.
  • Maintain employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks and participating in professional payroll associations. Make recommendation on potential changes impacting the Organization.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 5 years' experience in Payroll Processing with 5-year Supervisory function.
  • College degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent.
  • Extensive technical and practical knowledge of Payroll processing, payroll reporting, internal controls and payroll taxes at the federal, state, provincial and local levels.
  • Extensive knowledge of worker’s compensation reporting requirements, pension audits and 401K Plan non-discrimination testing
  • ADP Certified Payroll Specialist preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to give direction, adapt to change, establish relationships within the organization and work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and adhere to deadlines.

Outstanding Candidates will also have:

  • Experience in ADP Workforce Now payroll system
  • Commitment to UNITE HERE mission

Salary: $80,000 - $85,000, Commensurate with Experience.

Benefits: UNITE HERE offers a comprehensive benefits package (valued at $46,400 for family coverage) and employee pays 0$ in premium. Benefits include family medical, dental, vision and prescription coverage, retirement funds (401k and defined benefit pension), and generous paid time off.
