Human Resources Manager
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for a wide range of programs and functions including administering benefit programs and leave policies, ensuring UNITE HERE compliance with state and federal laws and regulations and supporting the work and development of current HR team members. The HR Manager collaborates with UNITE HERE’s leadership team to develop and implement policies and practices to support our staff and maintain the security and effectiveness of our core mission. You will join a dedicated team that is invested in recruitment, training, and providing excellent benefits and support for the staff who work to further UNITE HERE’s mission.

Job Responsibilities:
HR Systems Management: Work with HR team to maintain, optimize, and manage HR systems and processes to ensure efficiency and accuracy in HR operations.
Manage and Administer Employee benefits: Help staff access their benefits, answer employee questions, and help with any issues; Work with HR team to develop employee trainings re. benefits. Work with HR Coordinator regarding schedule of communications to staff about benefits.
Staff Development: Provide supervision and guidance to the HR Coordinator and Confidential Administrative Assistant, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and standards, as well as fostering their professional development and growth.
Staff Relations: Partner with directors to develop approach to employees related to grievances and performance issues. Support directors in planning for promotions as well as discipline and terminations.
Benefits Vendor Relations: Review all benefits contract agreements, identify changes or decision points and present to leadership team with recommendations; Work with benefits administrators to improve employee experience.
Leave of Absence Coordination: Monitor and track all sabbatical, parental, or other leave of absence requests. Ensure all requests are handled in a timely manner and comply with both organizational policies as well as state-level requirements
Coordination with Finance Department: Support the HR Coordinator in working closely with Finance and Payroll staff regarding regular payroll, benefits billing, and other HR regulatory matters. Act as the backup for processing of payroll.
Compliance: Stay updated on labor laws and regulations to ensure organizational compliance. Identify compliance issues and make recommendations to leadership team. Make recommendations and coordinate changes to policies and procedures. Review and update Policy Handbook. Develop communication to staff about policy changes.
Qualifications:
- 4-5 years of experience in HR roles in a generalist capacity required with preferred experience in nonprofits or labor unions.
- Proven track record of helping build equitable human resources systems and practices that work for staff.
- 2+ years in a managerial or supervisory capacity with direct report(s).
- Thorough understanding of labor laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
Outstanding candidate will have:
- Spanish fluency
- Strong investment in UNITE HERE’s mission and/or previous experience in the labor movement.
Location: Office is located at 275 7th Avenue, NY. This is not a hybrid or work from home position.
Salary: $80,000-$90,000, Commensurate with Experience
