Summary:
Management of the daily operations of Finance Department. Directs monthly closing, account reconciliation and preparation of financial statements. Assists in the preparation of department and division budgets. Develop accounting policies and procedures. Supervises exempt and non-exempt accounting staff of the Finance Department. Responsible for directing, reviewing and coordinating the work of a number of accounting personnel in all aspects of accounting (accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger and financial reporting).
Job Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
• Leads day to day finance operations, including functional responsibility over accounting, real estate, investments, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and financial reporting.
• Provides management, motivation, training, expertise and performance evaluations to staff.
• Oversees the monthly closing and preparation of financial reports and year-end financial reports.
• Monitors and reports financial performance of departments and divisions.
• Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies and audit firms regarding reporting requirements, including but not limited to the IRS and Department of Labor and acts as primary liaison with all.
• Proactively seeks opportunities to improve and streamline general accounting processes and procedures.
• Reviews Expense requests and disbursements against approved budgets and ensures proper functional codes.
• Monitors daily cash flow and forecasts.
• Oversees and compiles data for non-discrimination tests for 401k Plan, workers compensation, pension and financial audits.
• Performs other duties as required.
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
• CPA preferred.
• Proven proficiency in the following areas:
- Abila MIP or similar accounting systems, and Microsoft Office Applications.
- Regulatory reporting requirements of IRS and DOL; i.e. 990s, 1099s, LM-2, etc.
- ADP Workforce or Comprehensive Payroll Solution.
- Integration of traditional paper based processes into paperless environment and digital workflow technology.
- Generally accepted accounting principles and concepts; accounting processes and internal control procedures.
- Compliance requirements of 401k Plan, workers compensation, defined benefit pension and financial audits.
• Strong supervisory / leadership and multitasking skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Team orientation with a strong emphasis on providing quality service to the operational departments.
• Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to work and interact with departments and divisions throughout the organization.
• Connection with Union mission preferred.
• Non-profit experience preferably with labor unions.
• Some travel required.
