Thank you for your interest in working with UNITE HERE.The Senior Accountant will provide leadership and expertise to maintain a cutting-edge team as we advance our mission on behalf of hospitality workers in the United States and Canada. You will work collaboratively with the Director of Finance and the Office of the Secretary-Treasurer to provide accounting and financial expertise in preparing internal and external financial reporting, compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and other rules and regulations affecting non-profit organizations, particularly labor organizations.
As the Senior Accountant, you will:
- Review accounting transactions, prepare schedules, journal entries, account reconciliation, consolidated financial statements and disclosures for Building, Investments, Political Action Committee, and other Funds.
- Handle audits and compliance reporting with all regulatory agencies (including but not limited to IRS and Department of Labor).
- Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance the accuracy of accounting data and/or efficiency of the department.
- Review capital expenditures and calculated depreciation.
- Prepare financial audit requirements
- Contribute to the overall success of department by performing all other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Cross-training with other functional areas of Finance, i.e., Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Receipts, General Ledger, Payroll and Financial reporting
- Travel occasionally
- Perform other duties as determined by Director and Secretary-Treasurer.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelors or higher in accounting
- Proven proficiency in the following areas:
- Microsoft applications (managing spreadsheets, creating charts, and using advanced formulas).
- Accounting software (e.g., Intacct)
- Different accounting modules including Investments, Payroll, Journal entries, General ledger, Reporting, Fund Consolidation, Budget, Allocations
- Generally accepted accounting principles, laws, and regulations
- Excellent analytical skills to manage large amounts of financial data and reports
- Team management skills
- Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail and account analyses.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
