The Culinary Workers Union Local 226, UNITE HERE’s largest local union, is recruiting full-time Campaign Researchers to work on new organizing campaigns in Las Vegas, Nevada.  

UNITE HERE! is known throughout the labor movement for innovative and effective campaigns utilizing corporate campaign strategies and impressive grassroots mobilization of workers and community allies to win justice for low-wage workers in the service-sector (specifically, in hotels, gaming, food service, laundry and apparel manufacturing and retail).  Through organizing and winning good contracts, Unite Here members have made hundreds of thousands of traditionally low-wage jobs into good, family-sustaining, middle class jobs. Unite Here boasts a diverse membership - largely Latino and Asian immigrants and African Americans – with a majority being women. 

The Culinary Workers Union Local 226 is a national leader in winning justice and raising living standards for service workers in the gaming industry. The Culinary represents 55,000 workers, most of whom work in Las Vegas Strip casinos. The Culinary is focused on empowering workers through strategic organizing. Over the past two decades, the union has organized tens of thousands of gaming workers, tripling its membership from 18,000 in 1987 to 55,000 today. The union is also committed to representing its members through an extensive rank-and-file shop steward program.  The Culinary has a diverse membership, consisting largely of Latino and Asian immigrants and African Americans, with women making up a majority of the union. Most of the union’s staff come from the rank and file.

 

The Campaign Researcher will join the Culinary’s Research Department and work in a team environment with other researchers and organizers on on-going campaigns.

Research Analyst job responsibilities include:

• Research companies using a wide variety of sources, including published databases, on-line and Internet sources as well as informational interviews with union, industry and financial sources.
• Conduct local and field research on companies and industries.
• Develop corporate analysis and adapt it for various audiences (e.g. staff, workers, shareholders, the public).
• Develop and carry out campaign strategies and tactics.
• Develop expertise in Unite Here industries.
• Work with Unite Here members, organizers, and regional staff, as well as community members and elected leaders to move campaigns forward.

Job Qualifications include:

• Two or more years of relevant experience in grassroots organizing campaigns, preferably with a labor union
• Excellent writing and communications skills (familiarity with new media is desired, though not required)
• Strong analytical skills (familiarity with business and/or finance is desired, though not required)
• Willingness to work long and sometimes irregular hours
• Oral and written fluency in Spanish is desired, though not required
